The entire Lumpkin Volunteer Fire Department reportedly resigned recently after the Lumpkin City Council failed to approve the purchase of a fire truck.
A few weeks ago Lumpkin Fire Chief Greg Stewart learned of an upcoming ISO inspection. The results reported in the inspection affect insurance rates. According to a source with the city, Stewart had already been looking for a truck. A budget of only $65,000 stymied Stewart's search quickly, though.
He returned to City Council to explain the problem. There was no appropriate equipment out there for $65,000. The council accordingly raised the budget to $115,000.
