Stewart BOE hires new superintendent

A called meeting of the Stewart Co. Board of Education May 21 came to order at Stewart Co. Elementary and adjourned a mere 23 minutes later. In those few minutes, more progress was likely made than at any of the previous meetings this school year.
Board member David Barrett had allegedly contacted Board Chair Thereatha Redding, who reported the request from Barrett when she opened the meeting. It was also alleged that board members Kesha Nelson and Austin Taylor with Barrett decided to call the meeting through earlier conversations.
After Redding called the meeting to order, Board Member Samuel Jones immediately entered a protest. He said there had been no discussion about hiring an interim superintendent. The measure was the primary item on the agenda.
