Young Eagles strike early to claim state title

The Marion County High School boys tennis team made history last Saturdays with the schools first ever state championship in tennis.
They faced area rival Irwin County in the state final and were able to earn the championship with wins in the three singles positions. Gray Wells (sophomore), Daniel Peacock (junior), and Bense Medders (freshman) each scored 6-0, 6-0 victories to earn the necessary three lines for the win. Meanwhile, the No. 1 doubles team of A.J. Wells (junior) and Kendrick Baker (freshman) had taken the first set 6-2 and were just getting started on the second set when the third line was secured by Bense Medders.
