Area high school football fans have been watching A.J. Wells help the Marion County Eagles to victories and championships since his freshman year, but they have not been alone. It did not take long for him to be recognized as one of the most promising punters/kickers in the nation, which meant coaches from colleges and universities from across the nation have had their eyes on him.
Over the last year they went from keeping an eye on him to battling each other in a recruiting war, with the rising senior visiting a number of high-profile universities in the Southeast (including UGA, Auburn, and Vanderbilt), as well as many others (including the University of Massachusetts and Indiana University).
His senior year was shaping up to include a whirlwind of wooing by scouts and coaches hoping to lure him to their football programs.
