It is not terribly unusual for someone to hit an animal in rural Marion County, but a recent "road kill" incident led to the arrest of four alleged "cattle rustlers."
Someone reported running into a calf on Highway 240 last Wednesday morning. After calling to report it, the driver left, so there wasn't much of a trail for Deputy Mamie Sanders and the Marion County Sheriff's Office to follow.
However, they followed tracks, went door-to-door, and then pieced the information together with a call that came in later about stolen cattle.
The result was the arrest of four people for livestock theft and the recovery of most, if not all of the cattle. A final inventory was still being taken to determine if the dead calf, which was skinned and gutted ... Online subscribers click here for the rest of the story.
