No bullets for guns, no food for inmates, no radar
are among the issues that greeted Sheriff Neal

When Marion County Sheriff Derrell Neal took office last Tuesday, January 1, one of his first official acts was to go to the grocery store and buy some eggs and grits. Unfortunately, it was not so he could cook his staff a meal as a way to show them how much he cared about them. It was because there was nothing for the inmates at the jail to eat.
The jailer who normally ordered food had been told not to buy any more, according to Sheriff Neal.
He did not find that out immediately, because when he arrived at the jail all of the jailers had been dismissed from work (and one had been fired). So, his actual first order of business (at 12:01 a.m.) was to get someone on duty to supervise the jail/inmates.
Once he had time to look over everything, he found a lot of things were amiss.
