The Stewart County Board of Assessors held its first meeting of the year Jan. 23 at the Stewart County Courthouse in Lumpkin. The first official business for the board was to reelected Robby Lane chair. Winston Morrison and Bill Hearon are the other board members. Sue Whipkey is the county assessor. She reports to the Board of Assessors, but is paid by the county.
The message from Whipkey at the meeting: Be aware of what you’re being taxed for this year.
Whipkey, who briefly resigned her post this fall and is now back on the job full time, encouraged taxpayers to come to the Stewart County Courthouse to review their property tax records now.
