The Marion County Commission has made significant progress picking up payments for garbage pick-up, but it is still trying to collect more than $200,000.
Officials began to crack down on collection efforts back in 2011 when almost 1-in-4 households (24%) were more than a full year past due on their payments. At that time, there were 527 accounts that were at least a year delinquent, which added up to $309,885.
Now, that figure is down to $225,909.
Progress is being made, said County Commission Chairman George Neal.
We have collected $83,976 of it and we are working to collect the rest.
