Marion County started 2013 off in an historic way, as Sheriff Derrell Neal took office and gave the county its first new sheriff in 27 years and its first African-American sheriff.
Sheriff Neal enters office with a number of goals. He believes a large segment of the community has come to view the Sheriff’s Office as less than stellar in recent years and he wants to turn that around.
I think the public has a poor perception of the Sheriff’s Office, he said. I want to let the community know that we will be dependable and respond whenever needed.
In addition to how they respond to calls, he has a number of other ways in which he plans to change how the community views the office. One way is simply by being viewed more often.
