Stewart Co. Commissioners met on January 8 in the courthouse at Lumpkin. Joe Lee Williams was reelected as chair and Jimmy Lee was elected vice-chair. Commissioner Arcola Scott abstained on both votes.
Lee was sworn in at the December 2012 meeting and replaces Mitzi House on the board. House lost in her bid for reelection to Lee in the July primary. Lee then defeated a Republican opponent in the general election. Lee has previously served as a commissioner in the county.
David Davis and Jon Cairn of PolyEngineering, an architectural and engineering firm with experience building and renovating jail facilities, made a presentation on rehabilitating the Stewart County prison farm. They reviewed the history of the facility and discussed possible funding sources.
