The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is helping Marion County Sheriff Derrell Neal look into a number of issues that he discovered shortly after taking office last month. The most alarming include missing evidence, stolen property that was recovered but never returned to the owners, and items being burned and destroyed outside the jail in late December.
Missing Jewelry: Local residents Tom and Charitie Fuller were the victims of a burglary in the latter part of 2012. They were lucky enough that the jewelry (3 rings and a necklace) were found at a pawnshop in Phenix City, Alabama. The Russell County Sheriffs Office recovered the items and then turned them over to the Marion County Sheriffs Office, which was to hold the jewelry as evidence until trial and then return it. However, the jewelry now cannot be found.
