When senior Brandon Bourage travels down the halls of Chattahoochee County High School he does so with the help of crutches, and occasionally a wheelchair, but the first thing people notice is his smile. One would never suspect that the teenager is battling cancer.
“At first I just thought he twisted his ankle,” said fellow student Jodie Perkins. “When he told us he had cancer I couldn’t believe it. He is always happy. He’s one of a kind.”
At first Bourage, who plays receiver and strong safety for the Panthers, actually did think it was just a nagging football injury. However, when his hip didn’t seem to be getting any better he went to the doctor and soon afterwards learned that he suffers from Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer.
