Stewart Superintendent Resigns

The Stewart Co. Board of Education met Tuesday at the Stewart Co. Elementary media center. More than 50 local citizens attended the meeting.
After amending the agenda, the meeting began with a public statement by a board member, David Barrett, who called a motion to remove the chair. The motion failed after it was seconded and came to the floor for a vote. Not to be deterred, Barrett revealed that the chair had contacted the school district attorney about personnel matters without notifying the entire board.
He went on to read an ethics section of the code and informed the chair, Thereatha Redding, that she was not authorized to intrude on hiring, transferring or dismissing employees. Personnel matters, he explained, are the exclusive domains of the superintendent.
