(From the Sept. 27, 2006 issue)
The Preston City Council voted to process an application to use groundwater for the “Tolleson Project” and conducted various other business during its recent monthly meeting.
Council members passed a motion to complete a Georgia Environmental Protection application for the water permit needed to use ground water for the Tolleson Project.
Many other items related to the water department were discussed during the meeting. These included a decision not to change the procedure for water “shut offs.” The policy for shutoffs will remain. A $5 penalty is added to all accounts not paid by 5 p.m. on the deadline day (the 10th day of the month). Accounts not paid for a second consecutive month will be shut off on the first working day after the payment deadline.
It was noted that the number of people on the shut off list was 21 as of Sept. 11.
The council also adopted a water conservation plan for the city.
Mayor Marie Hunter noted that some lots in the city are not “kept up” as they should be and that they need to be notified of the need to properly maintain the property. After verbal notification, a written notice by council will be sent.
It was also noted that parade and one-day permits will be waived by the council for the annual Olde Tyme Fair, which is scheduled for October 28. |
