compete in Market Lamb Show

By Laura A. Griffeth,
County Extension Agent,
Webster County
The lamb project is alive and well in Webster County this year. Three 4-H'ers competed in the Atlantic Coast Classic Market Lamb Show on Saturday, July 15 at the Screven County Ag Center in Sylvania, GA.
To start things off, all three 4-H'ers participated in showmanship where the judge evaluated how they showed the lamb not the quality of the lamb. Clayton Witherington participated in 10th - 12th grade showmanship,

Jessica Page participated in 4th - 6th grade showmanship, and Rachel Minick participated in 1st - 3rd grade showmanship.
Jessica Page got the action started off with a 4th place in Class 5 with her 92-pound ewe, while Clayton Witherington showed his 90-pound ewe in the same class. In Class 6, Rachel Minick showed her 95-pound ewe and later showed her 110-pound wether in Class 8. Once again, Jessica Page and Clayton Witherington competed against each other in Class 7, with Jessica placing 3rd with her 106-pound ewe and Clayton's 105-pound wether narrowly missing the cut.
The next show will be in Perry at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter on Saturday, July 29, while the State Market Lamb Show will also be in Perry in early October. A local show will be held at a date to be determined.
