The Convention, held in Savannah each year, will also include opportunities for city officials to share ideas, concerns and solutions with each other and hear from state and national experts on municipal issues.
Among the highlights is a debate between the candidates for governor and lieutenant governor and a political pundits' discussion on the upcoming elections. There will also be sessions on issues such as the use of Tasers by police officers, franchise fees, financing for local governments and developing public-private partnerships. City officials will also approve the association's policy platform and elect new officers and the board of directors.
"We try to provide training and information that is consistent with our goal of giving city leaders the most accurate and important information possible so they can do the best job possible for their citizens," said GMA Executive Director Jim Higdon. "Georgia's cities are facing new challenges and city officials are asking for more information on how to deliver services to citizens that is more efficient, effective and responsive."
Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its 500 member cities.
