Webster Commission to purchase reflective address signs for county residents

Law enforcement officials and ambulance crews will have an easier time finding addresses in emergency situations, courtesy of a decision by the Webster County Commission to purchase and install reflective address signs throughout the county, including within the city limits.
County Commission Chairman Dave Wills said that the signs will be purchased and installed over the course of the next few months, noting that nearly 1,200 signs will be required to post every home in the county. The estimated cost of the signs is $7,000, which will be paid for with sales tax proceeds.
"When a citizen calls 911 in an emergency, we want to be able to provide the assistance they need as quickly as possible, and that means getting to the right address without any delay," said Wills.
In other business, the Commission: approved the purchase of a computer and software system, for the Tax Commissioner's office, from Governmental Solutions Inc., at a cost of $13,095; discussed rising fuel prices and the impact it is having on the road department budget; discussed the possibility of adopting an ordinance related to minimum lot sizes and restrictions that might be placed on commercial mobile home parks; refused to approve a contract with the Circuit Public Defender's office, which provides indigent defense service to criminal defendants; and discussed a method of selecting four persons to serve on the Charter and Unification Commission which will be established upon the signature of Governor Sonny Perdue.
