Stephens is Teacher of the Year

(From the October 4, 2006 issue)
This year's Teacher of the Year for the Webster County School System is Mrs. Susan Stephens.
Mrs. Stephens is a life-long resident of Webster County. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Drew of Preston. She resides in rural Webster County with her husband, Mr. Roulf Stephens and their two sons. She is an active member of First Baptist Church in Richland.
Mrs. Stephens is a graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University. She has 12 years of teaching experience.  Nine of those years were spent in the Sumter County School System and she has been a member of the Webster County Elementary/Middle School faculty for three years.
Each year school systems throughout the state of Georgia select a teacher to represent their school district as a candidate for the Georgia Teacher of the Year. The selection is based on the following guidelines as set forth by the state. "The candidate should be a certified teacher who (1) is an exceptional, dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled teacher planning to continue in active teaching status; (2) inspires all students to learn regardless of

background or ability; (3) has the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues; (4) plays an active role in the community as well as school; (5) is poised and articulate and possesses the energy to withstand a taxing schedule."
Mrs. Stephens is honored to have been chosen by her peers as Teacher of the Year.  She will now be submitting a narrative response application for review by officials in the Georgia Department of Education. Ten finalists will be chosen from throughout the state and the names will be announced in January.
