Brent Cobb - Dirt Road In Georgia - Single - Dirt Road In Georgia (Radio Edit)

By RICHARD HARRIS
(From the August 9, 2006 issue)
Brent Cobb, the young country musician from Ellaville, is garnering more attention as a bona-fide up-and-coming star, as fans across the country are eagerly awaiting the fall release of his debut album, No Place Left To Leave.
Of course area residents who listen to country music on the radio probably heard at least one of the songs from his demo some time ago, as it was broadcast numerous times by Americus-based WISK. Cobb was also featured in this newspaper around the first of the year. Now, however, his South Georgia brand of county/rock-a-billy is being heard by many people via the internet.

(www.itunes.com) is currently offering two versions of Cobb’s single Dirt Road in Georgia as 99¢ downloads. Two more of his songs can be heard by visiting his “myspace” page at http://myspace.com/brentcobb. His myspace profile has been viewed more than 6,000 times.
So, Cobb should have a substantial base of fans who would like to listen to his debut album from Beverly Martel Music, an independent label based in Los Angeles. LA is where he recorded his two-song demo with a distant relative who had recently produced an album for Shooter Jennings (son of the legendary Waylon Jennings). Shooter and his band, The 357’s, played along with Cobb on the demo and again for the album.
Below is how material promoting his soon-to-be released album describes Cobb’s music.
The Story So Far
“Imagine, for a moment, an alternate musical universe. Where Dwight Yoakam is fronting Lynyrd Skynyrd and Tom Petty has surrendered his Heartbreakers over to Alan Jackson. This is the stylistic world that young Georgian songwriter Brent Cobb likes to live in. It's good ole' southern twang with a rock-n-roll backbeat.
Blessed with a richly melodic singing voice, Brent never waivers from delivering arena sized hooks. But it's his timeless songwriting that truly makes No Place Left to Leave an essential purchase for any country rock fan.
Much like his wide-ranging influences, Cobb throws his creative hat into many styles and moods. There are barnstormers like opening track Richland. But radio chestnuts like Dirt Road In Georgia and Hold Me Closely should appeal to radio programmers from Augusta to Bakersfield.
The album's instrumentation is handled with force and precision by Shooter Jennings and his backing band The 357’s. The outlaw rocker was a fan of Brent's demos and flew him out to Los Angeles to record the album with his producer Dave Cobb. The youngster more than rises to the occasion with the kind of winning performance usually reserved for headlining acts.
In early 2006, Georgia's WISK got their hands on a rough version of Dirt Road In Georgia even though it wasn't officially released anywhere, they played it anyway. With radio support and a raucous live show, Brent Cobb's profile is rapidly escalating throughout country and southern rock circles! Signed to Los Angeles based Beverly Martel Music and with No Place to Leave coming out in the fall, Brent is ready to acquaint himself with the inside of a tour bus for the next few years.”
