A large crowd filled Ellaville Baptist Church on Saturday night. The occasion was a benefit for Angela Usry. Angela had a kidney/pancreas transplant in 2000, but due to a rare kidney disease called glomerulonephritis, she now needs another kidney.
“We would like to thank our pastor, Ben Foxworth, and all of the other people who had a part in putting on this event,” Geraldine Usry, Angela’s mother said. “There was plenty of good food, thanks to the food committee of the church.”
The gospel band that performed was Crimson River Revival. Humorist “Uncle Bud” Wilkinson also added to the evening’s entertainment.
Actually, the donations will go directly to the National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF). This organization realizes the power of community based fund raising and assists families of transplant patients from

initial discussions, through phases of active fundraising and through payment of medical expenses. The Georgia Transplant Foundation’s Access to Care program will match the amount raised dollar-for-dollar.  The benefit raised $2,974.
Because transplants depend on people being willing to donate their organs, Angela had organ donor materials available for those attending. The website of NTAF has a video clip explaining their services, and one child on the video, who had received a liver transplant, showed his t-shirt that had a saying that might convince the hesitant donor. It reads: “Don’t take your organs to Heaven – Heaven knows we need them here!”
For more information on organ donation visit the NTAF website. Their address is: www.transplantfund.org.
Angela would personally like to thank the band, “Uncle Bud,” and her Aunt Nancy and Uncle Bill Pritchard from Woodstock, Connecticut.
“Aunt Nancy was down here on her vacation, but spent most of her time baking refreshments for those attending the fundraiser, Angela explained. Angela says her strongest support group is her family and that she could not have made it this far without them.
