Schley hopes out-of-county lines
will help fund in-county expansion
By Linda Adams (From the May 31, 2006 issue)
The Schley County Public Water System is being 40 percent funded by the USDA. Although there is no requirement in that grant to service every house or account in the county, the plan is to use proceeds from service to adjoining counties to fund expansion to under-populated areas in Schley.
The line being installed south along LaCrosse Road will end with service to Statum Lake Subdivision in Sumter County. Proceeds from these services will help fund Phase II. Another service which will help fund Phase II is the delivery of water to the City of Andersonville.
Phase I of the installation of the system was accomplished in 2002 and 2003. For Phase II to begin, the USDA grant requires that 963 customers be on line in Phase I. The services down LaCrosse and the Andersonville service allowed the county to meet this requirement.
Although Schley County equipment and personnel is being used to install the pipeline, the County is being reimbursed for the cost through the funds from the grant.
There is a deadline for the initial tap fee of July 1, 2006. The initial fee is $150, but those paying a tap fee after this date will be charged $500. If service does not end up being provided to anyone paying the initial fee, their money will be refunded.
