(From the May 24, 2006 issue)
The Schley County High School baseball team continued its quest for a state championship by taking two more big steps toward that ultimate goal.
Last week they defeated Treutlen County on the road by scores of 17-4 and 5-2 in the second round of the Class A State Playoffs. Earlier this week they defeated the Bowden Red Devils in the “Elite Eight” round, winning by scores of 11-3 and 7-5. The wins improved the Wildcats’ record to 29-3 and put them in the “Final Four.” They are scheduled to play the winner of the “Elite Eight” contest between Social Circle (25-6) and Calvary Day (24-5). If they win their next series, they will be in the championship series.
Other teams still in the playoff picture at presstime for this issue of the newspaper were: Gordon Lee (21-10), Pacelli (23-8), Eagles Landing Christian Academy (29-1) and Emanuel County Institute (18-12). |
