A special election will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in Schley County. Voters living in the City of Ellaville will elect a new mayor in a non-partisan election. Mike Sellars
Schley County voters not living in the city limits will vote only on the SPLOST referendum.

David Theiss, a local homebuilder, qualified for the office of Mayor of Ellaville on Monday January 29. Theiss, (pronounced “Tice”), is married to the former Lois Toirac, a well-known local artist. The couple has three grown children: Heidi of Denver, Colorado, Jeremiah of St. Louis, Missouri, and Gabriel of Americus, Georgia.
A member and elder at Cornerstone Church in Americus, Theiss is also the chairman of the Schley County Republican Party, a member of the Georgia Republican Party State Committee, a member of the National Association of Home Builders, a director of the Home Builders Association of Georgia, a director of the Home Builders Association of Warner Robins, the founding president of the Americus Area Home Builders Association, and a member of the Ellaville-Schley County Chamber of Commerce.
“I hope to be of service to the City of Ellaville,” Theiss said. “Ellaville has been a great place to raise our family. We have enjoyed the small town atmosphere and hope to preserve that in the midst of the growth we anticipate. Our local school system has spurred growth and fostered a spirit of community that is the envy of many in the state. As mayor, I hope to preserve and enhance the positive qualities of Ellaville and oversee economic and cultural growth to allow our children opportunities to stay in our community and raise their children right here where they grew up.”

Mike Sellars, an emergency medical technician working on Schley and Marion counties qualified to run for the office of mayor of the city of Ellaville. Sellars and his wife Jenice have a daughter, Madison.
The son of Cindy Welch of Buena Vista and the late Russell Sellars of Schley County, Sellars is the grandson of the first woman mayor of Ellaville, Jeanette Peede, who held the position for two terms in the 1980’s.
“I felt like it was time for me to contribute to my community,” Sellars said. “There are a lot of new faces here and we need to make them feel welcome. With the new routing of US 19 there will be an increase in people passing through and coming to Schley County, increasing the chance for an economic boost. The City of Ellaville and the County need to work together to take advantage of this opportunity.”
