On a cold night, with no rain, the Ellaville Christmas Parade demonstrated again how good a small town parade can be. The Marine Band out of Albany again marched and provided a concert after the parade. The band won first place in the marching category with the Schley County High School Marching Band coming in second.
The winning float was entered by Rainbow Garden Club and featured a full size Christmas Tree in a setting complete with a fireplace. Second in the float competition was the Schley County Road Department.
The "other" category first place went to the South Georgia Technical College big black semi truck and trailer all trimmed out with lights.
"It was the first time we have had a full size semi in the parade and it made a big impression," Debbie Pilcher, city administrator and parade organizer, said.
The second place in the other category went to Jimmy Buffet, who pulled his master in a cart. Jimmy is a llama (not a beach-loving musician). |
