Win wasn't pretty...but 4-0 sure is

(From the October 4, 2006 issue)
The Schley County High School football team defeated Central of Talbotton by a score of 26-8 last Friday on the road.
It wasn’t pretty, but it was a win. Not only that, but it was the fourth win in as many games for the Wildcat football team, which now stands 4-0, just one win away from setting a new school record and ensuring a non-losing season, and two wins away from the program’s first ever winning season.
“We got the win,” said Head Coach Jim McFather. “I wish we couldn’t played better, but we got the win.”
The Wildcats got the game off to a great start, driving the ball 70 yards on 12 plays and scoring a touchdown. Jontu Soloman ended the drive with a 10-yard scoring run. Carmetrick Ross then crossed the goal line on a reverse for the two-point conversion that made the score 8-0.
Talbotton responded with a big play to get right back into the game. They scored on a 50-yard screen pass, also converted a two-point attempt, and tied

  the game at 8-8.
That would be all of the offensive scoring in the first half, but the Wildcats did manage two points on defense that allowed them to take a 10-8 lead into halftime. Caleb Teele tackled a runner in the endzone for a safety.
The Wildcats added a touchdown in the third quarter (Jordan Tedder 7-yard run) to make it 18-8, and score again in the final period (Deondrick Pina 8-yard run) to make the final score 26-8.
Defensively, Dexter Wall had a good game and Teele made some big plays, but Coach McFather was a little disappointed overall in the defense. He also said the team “didn’t seem too focused.”
The Wildcats also had some bad breaks that kept the score close, including several turnovers deep in Talbotton territory.
Up Next
This Friday, Oct. 6, the Wildcats will host region foe Pacelli for the 2006 Homecoming game. The Vikings are 2-2 and defeated Chattahoochee County by a score of 40-0 last Friday.
“The schedule is getting tougher,” noted Coach McFather.
