Class of 2006 graduates at TCHS

By TABETHA RUSSELL
(From the May 24, 2006 issue)
Graduation is a time that every senior and their parents look forward to. This year’s seniors at Tri-County High School were no different. Attending graduation this year and seeing many classmates who have over the years become friends move on and take the final step of their high school career was heartwarming.
The TCHS band started the ceremony with “Pomp and Circumstance,” a song played at most graduations across the country. Bobby Jones, an honor graduate, opened the ceremony with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Charmant Tan, the salutatorian of the 2006 senior class, gave an awesome speech that made most seniors laugh and look back on high school memories. He pointed out views of high school that were inspirational and uplifting. Tan included an old Chinese proverb that says, “There are many paths of the mountains, but the view is all the same.”
Tan also said, “… high school is a mountain which we try to climb. …while in high school, a student learns to become a better person. … High school is what we make it, once it’s over, there is no going

back. …We should all live life to the fullest with those you love.” Tan concluded his speech with a poem he wrote.
Darrell Neal, the valedictorian of the 2006 senior class, gave his speech that inspired his fellow classmates to make a difference in the future and become something.
Neal said, “We are a very determined class that will not stop until each goal is complete. … After this, we are no longer high school students; we are adults in the real world. … Remember, we are on a journey that will cause us to fall flat on our face, but it is not the number of times you fall that fail you, it is the number of times you get up that make you succeed. … The worth of our lives cannot be equated to money. We are the bright shining lights of the future and the future is now.”
After the speeches were made came the moment all seniors were anticipating. Marion County Superintendent Richard McCorkle and Webster County Superintendent Bowman Wiley handed each senior their diploma. Pamela Jackson, honor graduate, and Calandra Terry led the seniors and the audience in the singing of the Alma Matter, the words of which are printed below.
Hail to thee, our own Tri-County,
   Through all the years,
Honor, truth and valor lead thee,
   For eternity,
   Forward ever be our watchword,
   For success we’ll strive,
Hail to thee, our alma mater,
   Tri-County High.
Afterwards, the TCHS band played “Wind Beneath My Wings.” Rebecca Larson, also an honor graduate, concluded with the benediction and members of the class of 2006 threw their hats into the air and were on their way to the rest of their lives.
