Virginia (Ginger) Swint was reelected to the at-large seat on the Marion County Board of Education in Tuesday’s Runoff Election.
Swint received 910 votes, capturing 67 percent, while fellow candidate Michele Renee Glass received 441 votes (33 percent).
Swint and Glass had finished as the top two candidates in the November General Election, but none of the four candidates received a majority, so a runoff was necessary. In the November election, Swint had 809 votes (41%), and Glass had 570 votes (29%), while Ricky Singleton received 489 votes (25%), and George Jackson Sr. got 83 votes (4%).
There was also a statewide office up for grabs in the Runoff Election, as Chuck Eaton, R, faced David Burgess, D (I). In Marion County, Burgess received 61 percent of votes (753) to Eaton’s 39% (491), but at presstime it appeared that Eaton would win in a close race. With 95 percent of precincts reporting, Eaton had 108,757 votes (53%) to Burgess’ 97,503 (47%). |
