Swint, Glass to meet in runnoff;
Ogan to be new commissioner

Graham, Thompson win without opposition

   Marion County voters will have to return to the polls on December 5 to elect a representative to the at-large seat of the Board of Education, as none of the four candidates received a majority of votes. The two top vote receivers who will be in the runoff are incumbent Virginia (Ginger) Swint and Michele Renee Glass.
   Swint received 809 votes to give her 41.47 percent, missing an outright win by 8.53 percent. Glass received 570 votes to give her 29.22 percent, missing an outright win by 20.78 percent.
   The other candidates for the BOE seat were Richard (Ricky) Singleton, who received 489 votes (25.06%), and George Jackson Sr., who got 83 votes (4.25%).
   In the race for the District III seat on the County Commission, Lawrence (Larry) Ogan Jr. received 311 votes to win with 69.57 percent. Fellow candidate Horace Williams Jr. received 135 votes (30.20%).

   There were two Marion County candidates who were elected without opposition. Debra Graham, incumbent, will remain as the Board of Education member from District I. Dennis Thompson, who was the Republican nominee, won the District II seat on the County Commission without opposition in the General Election.
