| The first portion of the old school was built in 1911 and there were a number of additions through the years, including additional classrooms in 1924 and 1930, and a gymnasium in 1935-1936. In 1922 the county’s small elementary schools (Big Sandy, Liberty Hill, Renfroe, and Providence) were consolidated with the new school. All of the high schools were also consolidated there in 1929. The school was used until 1969 when it burned to the ground the night before the school year was to begin the first year of integration. Chattahoochee County high school students attended school outside of the county at other schools (most recently Spencer High in Columbus) until a few years ago when the new school was built at 360 Georgia Highway 26. |
