My thoughts of war, trade and politics |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In a discussion recently with a friend, I was asked, “What do you really think about ...” and various touchy topics was mentioned. I should know better but here are some frank thoughts. The war in Iraq: Once engaged in war, the game plan is always changing as unexpected turns occur in the fighting. A lot of mistakes were made, including before and during the war. Not enough study was given to the people, religion and historical background of the “navel of the world.” Reading the Bible and secular histories would reveal much about the nature of peoples that goes all the way back to Abraham or before. When ancient Assyria went to war, her armies did horrible things like impaling people on stakes, cutting off heads, rapine, burning and destruction of whole cities. Does that sound familiar? I know Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and evidence now is coming out that he cooperated with terrorist groups by providing material support and havens for training and hiding. The elimination of Saddam Hussein, an evil mass torturer and murderer, was needed to stop the mass digging of graves in the desert. The greatest mistake in my mind is that the older President Bush stopped the Gulf War one or two more days too soon. The Republican Guard army, Saddam’s protection, was spared. I was in favor of going all the way to Bagdad then. But, oh no! We could not offend the sensitivities of the Arab nations. We never learn! You have to DEFEAT the enemy in battle. America and other countries prevented Israel from totally defeating in battle the Palestinians and look at the situation today. A fanatical enemy has to be defeated. Generals MacArthur and Patton knew the goal of war is victory. An enemy won’t quit until he knows he is defeated. The trade agreements: I was opposed to the World Trade Organization and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). I am for free trade but agreements should be made one-on-one. When the USA joined WTO we encouraged the move toward one world government and we placed the future of our citizens in the hands of bureaucrats from many countries that are not free and hate us in the bargain. These trade agreements fueled the greed among CEOs and stockholders of major companies and hastened the loss of jobs here in America as businesses could freely go elsewhere to find cheap labor and tax havens. The greed of banks also increased as these agreements opened up free and safer access to other countries. Apparently riches count more than patriotism or freedom. While I am not so troubled by Canada, still that country is a wimp and deep in socialism with Big Daddy Government controls – where we are headed too. We are more unequally yoked to Mexico, a country rich in oil and other resources but controlled by a few wealthy elites ruling over the poor masses. From the beginning despotic and corrupt leaders have ruled Mexico. Crime is epidemic in Mexico. Mexico City is one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Someone on the TV say that Mexican citizens are not into drugs like so many Americans. However, like most people, Mexicans have weaknesses, like drinking booze. Also, drug dealers in Mexico pour drugs into our country to satisfy our “lost generation.” Poor Mexicans come north to where even illegals find jobs and get free medical care. Greed fueled the desire of company heads to hire illegal laborers while the government under both Democrats and Republicans turned a blind eye. Companies and large farms that hire such laborers should be held accountable for their welfare and fair pay and help defray costs of medical care and school costs. With countries so utterly different in makeup, how can we have “free trade” that is fair to us. If I was making millions off the NAFTA setup I might call it fair too. But what will our grandchildren call our free trade association when the unfair disparities turn America into a rich ruling class and a mass of poor people? A one-on-one agreement with Mexico made with wisdom and making things legal would have benefited both nations and people. Politics: Never put blind trust in party or individual politician. Hold them accountable. People who accept the half-truths and demeaning demagoguery and insults against political figures of any party only help drag our great nation down. If we blindly vote the party line we are part of the problem, not the solution. Political division in a dangerous world during a war is foolishness indeed. We should study issues and know enough about our Constitution and rule of law to select and elect candidates who uphold our national institutions and freedom. The same holds true of our judges. We need judges who know the Constitution well and follow it. Where are our statesmen? Where are our patriots? Vote for those who put America first. |
